Foundation in Counselling
This one year part-time course is for people who wish to use counselling skills in their work, or for those who want to know more about counselling, perhaps as a preliminary to progressing to a professional training.
The course is offered by New Paradigm Training in association with Croydon College, and is primarily experiential in its approach to learning. It is carefully designed to build on students’ existing skills, knowledge and experience. Training methods vary, and include much practical work in the form of group exercises, pairs work, and discussion.
Much of the assessment of students’ progress on the course is carried out on a self and peer basis, although tutors give regular feedback and are responsible for assessing any written work.
At the end of the course students will be awarded a Certificate in Counselling Skills.
Teaching takes place in comfortable and well-equipped rooms at Croydon College. Students have access to college facilities including the library and computers.
The course is run on a Saturday morning, to widen the access for those in full-time employment or with child-care responsibilities. It will run from 9.30am until 12.30, commencing on Saturday 29th September 2001. The course runs for thirty weeks spread over three terms.
Entry to the course is by application and interview. Potential students need have no formal qualifications, but should be over the age of twenty-one.
The cost of the course is £500 for the year. Students in receipt of means tested benefits may be eligible for fee remission. This can be discussed further at interview.
